The world and its noise can be heard much louder when you hold your ear to a sound funnel. If you speak or sing into it, you can be heard better yourself. In the ensemble arcimboldo's project rau·sch·end 2025–1898, Mauricio Kagel's ‹1898› for children's voices and instruments is performed in its originally intended version with early 20th-century horned string instruments as the main work and source of inspiration. Their special tonal possibilities are also explored in two new compositions by Abril Padilla and Charlotte Torres. The children's vocal part of Kagel's ‹1898› and the participatory composition DE·MO for children's voices and large speaking tubes by Abril Padilla are performed by class 5a of the Niederholz primary school (Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation's 2025 project to promote young talent). The performances will take place at the Museum Tinguely in Basel, where Tinguely's music machines will evoke associations with Kagel's work and the bell-shaped instruments, as well as being incorporated into the staging and acoustics.
